Continuing our train of thought on useful (rather than patronising) books for new mums-to-be, we can't recommend Nurture by Erica Chidi Cohen enough. Cohen is an LA-based doula who has helped hundreds of families, and seriously has her head screwed on - this book is practical and clever, with advice on the real-life issues modern mums face through their pregnancy. Beautifully laid out, Cohen talked us through our journey - with delicious recipes (hello, miso chicken), gentle physical and mindfulness exercises, and to-do lists, depending on the month and trimester. Illustrations are dotted throughout and the book continues into the first few weeks after labour as well. One of our favourite sections was where she discussed work and maternity leave - not just for those in office jobs, but for those who are freelance or own their own companies; it really spoke to us and showed us that she was writing to guide a modern woman.
